Pill or trinket boxes are inset with gemstones such as agate or shell (mother of pearl or paua shell).  The boxes themselves range from wood to pewter (antique silver effect) to brass effect to silver (hallmarked Birmingham).  The paintings are completed in fine detail, signed and protected with a special resin coating.
